Delays at import with Small Package Carriers
Its pretty common to see an express shipment arrive at the destination port and get stuck in customs. Often inadequate shipping documents are the cause. Small package carriers (FedEx, DHL, UPS et al), have very streamlined processes and manage shippers documents minimally. They pick up freight without checking documents, and rely on manifest clearance in most countries. This allows them to file their entire load of shipments at one go with customs. But high value shipments and dutiable items get held. Often these carriers are used for fast delivery, but their fatal flaw is documentation.
